Worker loses eye with fraudster

02/07/2010

A member of staff at a firework company lost the sight of one eye two years ago because of a fraudulent boss, it has emerged.

Bristol Crown Court was told how JWP Fireworks owner Jason Edgecombe forged a public liability insurance certificate in order to buy items from a supplier and broke health and safety law.

Edgecombe had already been prosecuted and fined for not co-operating with the local authority's investigation into the accident in Keynsham in May 2008.

Monday's court hearing came about after an investigation by officials at Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Edgecombe, from Mangotsfield, Bristol, bought the firework which caused the worker's injury after showing the fake certificate. He pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud and breaching health and safety regulations.

The court granted him bail and ordered him to return to the court in August to be sentenced.
