Inquest held over factory death

03/09/2010

An inquest has heard how a factory worker from County Durham was crushed to death while repairing an industrial press.

Chester-le-Street magistrates heard that Paul Clark, from Newton Aycliffe, was called to fix the machine after it broke down at the Thyssen Krupp Tallent car parts plant in July last year.

The 52-year-old father-of-two became trapped while working on the machine and died as a result.

Magistrates returned a verdict of accidental death.

The Health and Safety Executive, which launched an investigation into Mr Clark's death, told the inquest it was considering whether further action should be taken against the firm.

Around 800 people are employed by Thyssen Krupp Tallent, which specialises in making car chassis and suspensions.
