Geoff Hurst lost out in Spain scam

England World Cup hero Sir Geoff Hurst has launched a High Court action after losing £600,000 in a property scam.
The ex-footballer launched the action along with six other investors to sue businessman Mark Cordner for a total of £2 million after they invested in property in Spain.
The group alleges that it paid the full purchase price for seven off-plan apartments near Marbella following deceit, negligent misstatement, breach of fiduciary duty and wrongful conspiracy by Mr Cordner in 2003 and 2004. The seven say their rights over the apartments have been destroyed or rendered worthless. Sir Geoff also has a claim against Mr Cordner over a loan against another apartment.
The group's barrister Peter Knox QC told the High Court that the investors had been told by Mr Cordner - of Park Lane, Knebworth - that they were buying at a discount.
The court also heard that Mr Cordner had claimed that football manager Harry Redknapp was buying at the site. The hearing was adjourned until Friday and Sir Geoff, 68, is expected to give evidence on Monday.
