Firm fined after ignoring HSE rules

A Liverpool roofing firm has been fined after a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) officer spotted two of its employees pressure washing a house roof without barriers in place to stop them falling during a routine visit in Wirral.
Rainsafe Protect Ltd was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £2,069 costs after it pleaded guilty to breaching the Work at Height Regulations 2005 at Wirral Magistrates' Court.
HSE employees spotted the Rainsafe workers washing the roof on Spital Road in Bebington without adequate safety measures in place to prevent a work accident on March 26 of last year.
This oversight occurred despite the HSE sending the company advice about working at heights on four different occasions a month earlier and after HSE inspectors visited two Rainsafe sites. Its Liverpool head office and managers from the firm also attended an HSE safety awareness event.
