Cyclist family wins £337,500 payout

The family of a cyclist killed in a crash has won £337,500 in damages at the High Court from the insurer of a lorry driver involved in the tragedy.
Ninian Donald, 34, of Hackney, east London, died after being dragged under the wheels of a skip lorry at traffic lights in May 2007, as the lorry turned across his path.
The settlement was agreed on the basis that the insurers for the driver, Bernard Madden, were 75% liable for the accident as he had not adjusted his mirrors properly and did not double-check it was safe to turn left across the cycle and bus lane, the lawyer for Mr Donald's family said.
Simon Michael said Mr Donald was 25% to blame as he had moved on to the pavement out of the cycle lane to avoid a bus and when he rejoined the road, he was not able to see the lorry's indicators.
Judge Simon Brown QC, sitting in London, approved the settlement.
Mr Donald, a set builder, leaves behind his 46-year-old partner Kate Evenden and daughter Rosie, now four.
