17/03/2010
A multimillion-dollar compensation deal over the case of Chris Baker, a former assistant to the band Blink 182 who was killed in a 2008 plane crash, has been accepted by his family.
Mr Baker, employed as drummer Travis Barker's assistant at the time, was killed when a plane he was travelling in crashed in South Carolina, killing four other people and leaving celebrity DJ AM seriously injured.
The agreement will see Goodyear, Learjet and a number of other companies involved in the ownership, operation and maintenance of the aircraft, establish an annuity for Mr Baker's son that will pay him $17 million over the course of his life. Otilia Baker will also receive $7.6 million as part of the settlement.
Brain Panish, who represented the Baker family, said: "It's a very sad case, but we're glad they were able to avoid a trial and receive full compensation."
The Blink 182 drummer and the estate of DJ AM settled their cases involving the crash for undisclosed terms.
