Work Injury & Accidents At Work Claim Specialists

If you have been injured at work, our specialist solicitors can help.

When you’ve been injured at work, it’s not always obvious at first whose fault it is, and it’s not uncommon for employers to try to deny responsibility. This reaction can be extremely upsetting when you’ve worked hard on their behalf. So you need a specialist, qualified solicitor to stand up for you and make sure you’re heard.

After all, you’re not just having to deal with physical pain, you have to cope with the stress it puts on you and your family, the frustration of being injured through no fault of your own and the prospect of not being able to earn during your recovery and rehabilitation.

Mellor Hargreaves has a superb track record in helping injured workers claim compensation after a work-related accident, whether it’s caused by unsafe conditions, faulty machinery, fellow employees or other people in the workplace. Our experience and expertise help establish who’s at fault, even if it’s not immediately clear that your employer is to blame.

Following these steps as soon as possible after an accident at work will help us make a successful claim:

  1. Tell your health and safety representative, if you have one.
  2. Tell your employer (ideally your HR manager and your immediate boss) and make an entry in the company accident book. Keep your report factual and don’t say anything about whose fault you think it is.
  3. Write out a full and clear description of the accident while it’s still fresh in your mind, then sign and date it. This will be invaluable to us when we sit down to discuss what happened.
  4. List the names and addresses of any witnesses, as we may want to contact them.
  5.  If at all possible, take photographs of the accident scene. If not, make a sketch of the area, listing any notable features. If your employers think they are to blame, they may not allow your solicitor to inspect the scene, so acting quickly and taking photographs is extremely important.

We can also advise you on claiming disability benefits

An accident at work can either leave you out of a job, or temporarily or permanently unable to work because of the injuries you’ve received.

If this is the case, as well as claiming compensation, you’re entitled to claim benefits. The Department for Work and Pensions supports people disabled by an accident at work and their carers with a range of benefits and services. We’ll be able to tell you which you’re eligible for and help you with the paperwork.
